SJB opposes postponement of LG elections

Main Opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya ( SJB) today opposed the decision of the government to postpone the local government election and emphasized the need to hold an election to find out the response of the people. The party also alleged the government had put feelers to expose its intention to extend the term of the President by two years through the conduct of a referendum. Instead the SJB MP Thushara IndunilAmarasena told the media that the government should go for either the local government or provincial council elections to read people's pulse on the ruling party.
