The pediatric unit of the Wellawaya Base Hospital is on the verge of closing down as there has been no paediatrician for more than six months.

Due to this, children suffering from various diseases in villages like Koalanda, Buttala, Ella, and Thanamalwila are left in the lurch. The paediatrician who was attached to this hospital left the job about six months ago to secure a job abroad.
