Magistrate bans use of loudspeakers at Deep Jungle festival

The Hingurakgoda Magistrate today issued an order banning the use of loudspeakers between 10 pm and 6 am during the Deep Jungle Music and Cultural Festival 2023 scheduled to be held in Habarana. The Order also states that sounds from the festival should not go beyond its stipulated confines. The Order was made in keeping with provisions in Police Circular 2031/2007. The Magistrate also ordered a team of 20 police officers and 10 wildlife officials to ensure the Order is enforced. RARE Sri Lanka, the Centre for Environmental Justice, the Wildlife and Nature Protection Society and Lanka Nature Conservationists obtained the court order. The festival is expected to be held from 17-20 February.
