Speaker of Parliament meets UN Assistant Secretary General Ms Kanni Wignaraja

Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Speaker of the Parliament met with United NationsAssistant Secretary General, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Assistant Administrator and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, Ms. KanniWignaraja this morning, together with the Secretary General of Parliament Mr. Dhammika Dasanayake,

Resident Representative of UNDP in Sri Lanka, Mr. Robert Juhkam and other representatives from the Parliament and UNDP.

At the meeting, Ms. Kanni Wignaraja reinforced UNDP’s continuedsupport to the Parliament of Sri Lanka to accelerate its efforts to promote the successful implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Sri Lanka, focusing on UNDP’s continued support to policy-oriented committee systems with broader public consultation as the lead UN coordinating agency supporting the Parliament of Sri Lanka. The meeting also discussed the 9th Parliament’s measures to strengthen the political participation of women and youth in Sri Lanka.
