Parliament approves emergency

120 Parliamentarians voted in favour of the resolution, while 63 opposed it. Many Parliamentarians spoke in favour of the imposition of emergency, but several others said it was a moment of unleashing state terror against the civilians. The opposition Leader argued unleashing terror and victimising people for free expression would not augur well for the government. The President wants a unity government and acts contrary to that simultaneously, said several Parliamentarians. Many opposition members echoed their voices against the emergency regulations. Wimal Weerawansa said it would not be possible to allow the state to fall due to conspiracies by powerful nations. We have to protect it at any cost, he said.
