The decision to change over to Organic fertilizer will stay.

The decision to use organic fertilizer to replace chemical fertilizer will go ahead unhindered, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said today.

The President was expressing his views when he had an audience with the Most Ven. Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathna, Prelate of the Asgiriya Chapter.

“We will not inconvenience the farmer in the process,” the President emphasized.

This decision will benefit the future generation, and prevent the escalating incidence of mortalities, caused due to chronic kidney disease. In addition, the President said it helps protect the environment from the destruction caused by the use of chemical fertilizer.

The President also said that the cost incurred for the importation of chemical fertilizer amounts to 400million USD annually by using organic fertilizer, it would be possible to channel that money to upgrade the living standards of the farmer community.
