The number of COVID deaths reported yesterday stands at 111. The highest number of COVID deaths reported in Sri Lanka so far. We are surpassing India, percentage-wise, a senior health official said. The mortality rate may rise alarmingly with the fast-spreading delta variant if the government fails to take meaningful steps to protect the people. He also called upon the people to take precautionary measures to contain the spread of the disease. Meanwhile, the government is planning to import nearly 750 tons of Oxygen to cushion the shortfall. The government will make urgent purchases of Oxygen from India and Malaysia.
