The Sri Lanka Army is to be downsized by 2030

The government is planning to downsize the Sri Lankan Army by half, according to informed sources.   Accordingly, the strength of the Army will be reduced from 200,000 now to 100,000 by the year 2030. The aim is to build a technically savvy professional force that would engage in strategic operations.
