Diana came under attack by an SJB MP near the Parliamentary Library

State Minister Diana Gamage has been allegedly assaulted by SJB parliamentarian Sanjaya Perera near the parliamentary library following an altercation today. In a special statement in parliament today, Gamage demanded an impartial investigation into the incident. Prime Minister Dinesh Gunwardena, while citing her complaint as a serious incident, urged the chair to adjourn the parliament for ten minutes to discuss the incident. Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced the appointment of a committee comprising four parliamentarians to inquire into the incident after the parliament reconvened after 10 minutes. Later in the evening, State Minister Gamage admitted herself to the Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital after making a complaint to the Welikada Police regarding the incident. She stressed the importance of conducting a special investigation into this incident after scrutinising the relevant CCTV footage, and the Speaker should draw special attention to this incident.
